With 270 miles of coastline, the island boasts some of the best beaches in the world, such as Flamenco Beach in Culebra, the only rainforest under US national park service, Bioluminescent bays, which make swimmers appear to be glowing and an incredible array of birds and wildlife, the natural wonders of Puerto Rico are certainly an outstanding draw.
For adventurous travelers, the subterranean river of Camuy caverns, snorkeling, rock climbing and ziplining are available. Not quite that ambitious, how about enjoying a horse back ride on the beach.
History & Culture
Art & History buffs will find much to enjoy on the island. A fusion of the indigenous, African & Spanish cultures on the island have produced both a rich history and unique artistic style. From the old world charm of San Juan and ancient artifacts of Jayuya to the modern art and active theaters, there is so much to see.
As I am a foodie at heart, I’d be remiss not to mention the culinary delights available during a visit to Pueto Rico. As most of you know, the island is famous for it’s rums, but it is also considered the “gastronomic capital of the Caribbean”. Renowned chefs from an array of culinary traditions have brought their talent to the island, and Saborea, Puerto Rico’s largest annual food festival is a gathering of this outstanding talent along with food celebrities, in a celebration of Puerto Rican cuisine.
Ease of Travel
As Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, traveling there does not require a passport and there is no need to convert to a foreign currency.
