I used to watch a lot of reality TV, but sort of got burnt out on it. The last series I actually watched through to the end was, Rock of Love. Perhaps it is the music tie in or because I’d recovered from my past overdose, but I’ve started watching the Private Lives Of Nashville Wives, which started last night on TNT.
Now how does this compare to the trashy reality shows I’m accustomed to? It was relatively tame for this first episode, but I do see potential for some pretty big drama in the coming weeks.
This week spent a good deal of the episode filling us in on who the ladies are, from their viewpoint. We learn about their families, jobs and dreams. Overall, I would say the talent present in this cast is more than most “wives” type reality have. One of the wives is an established soap star, who has opted to be a stay-at-home mom for a number of years now, another is an executive from a big online discount site and one is a determined singer. We also meet Betty Malo and her sister Ana, two crazy blonde Cuban twins, who add a bit of comedy relief to the program. The cast is completed with former Hooters girl Cassie, wife of Christian singer Gary Chapman (23 years her senior), oddly she doesn’t really come across as a gold digger, but he sort of creeps me out.
Amusing moments last night:
Dead Pig: The twins freaking out over a pig they got for a BBQ. Um, if your going to have a pig roast ladies, there is going to be a dead pig.
The Watermelon Massacre: The cast shows that despite being well dressed & wealthy, they can channel a bit of redneck when they want.
So, will the show develop into a fan fave? Tune in to find out. The show airs Monday nights at 10 ET/9CT on TNT. I’m picking up some Tennessee whiskey and making cocktails for the next episode, why not join me…
