“Game of Your Life” Premieres on NBC (December 2nd)

game of your lifeThis time around P & G Family Movie Night, has a feature that will especially appeal to families with members who are techies or gamers, while still entertaining the rest of us.  The lead character is a young man named Zach Taylor.  He is an excellent student, and his hard work pays off with a highly coveted scholarship to the Digital Institute of Game Design.  There he will train under a famous game designer, named Marcus Bentton His future is certainly looking bright.

For a very important freshman project Zach and his team of classmates are developing an interactive social game.  This project is terribly important, since failure would mean not moving on in the educational program. Zach decides to start taking time away from this essential project, when he discovers that is beloved father is having some major financial difficulties.  His idol Marcus Bentton offers him work on a secret project, this would enable him to help out his dad, but takes away from his contributions to the team project.  This soon causes a rift, and Zach is even more torn when he comes to realize that Bentton’s intentions are not good.  He has some serious decisions to make, that will not only effect himself and his future, but his classmates and father, as well.  You will have to tune in to see how Zach works it all out.

Once again P & G Family Movie Night has brought us an engaging film to share with our children.  It is refreshing to be able to tune in, and know that a positive and thoughtful message will be presented to our kids, rather than the racy and violent content that is so popular on television lately.  Movies such as Game of Your Life, make kids really stop and think about what is important in life, and the importance of having the dignity to do what is right, even if it is the more difficult path.

The movie premieres on December 2nd at 8pm EST.  Check out this trailer:

Who Is Simon Miller? : An Exciting Spy Thriller for the Whole Family Premieres Saturday!

Who is Simon Miller?Who Is Simon Miller? Premieres this Saturday August 6th on NBC at 8pm ET/7pm CT, as part of the P&G Family Movie Night series.  I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the movie, and must say, while still maintaining good family values and staying appropriate for family members of all ages, it managed to have a little edge to it.  This is one that you will have less trouble getting the teens and preteens to watch with you.who is simon miller

The story revolves around the family of Simon Miller, their search for him and the mystery of what and who he really is.  The two teens and their mom soon find themselves chasing clues around Europe, in the midst of some dangerous espionage.  The kids find themselves to be quite adept at unraveling the mystery, something I think younger viewers will really enjoy.who is simon miller

Despite the subject matter, the film makers successfully avoided showing anything violent or otherwise objectionable to parents of younger children.  The values of honesty, hard work and maintaining family bonds are frequently showcased in this movie.

Field of Vision: A Fun Movie with Family Values

field of visionThe family friendly movie, Field of Vision premieres this  Saturday, June 11 on NBC at 8pm ET/7pm CT.  I just had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek viewing and while I typically don’t watch a lot of made for TV movies, I did enjoy the show.  The movie focuses on a troubled young man (Cory) who is a bit lost in the world.  Cory becomes a target of bullies at high school, further complicating his already difficult life.  This friend a little girl who shares his love of reading keeps him cheered up a bit.  The girl has an old video camera which shows her mysterious but truthful things.  Her brother, the quarterback of the football team the bullies are on, sees what is happening Cory through this magical camera, and has a difficult choice to make.  Does he go against his teammates and do what is right, or once again ignore their abhorrent behavior?  Can he handle the consequences?

field of visionAs a football fan I enjoyed the game and training scenes, I also was pleased with the positive moral tone of the movie.  It truly is a good pick for family movie night.  Not only does Field of Vision open discussion about bullying, but it also shows the importance of believing on one self, maintaining integrity and not giving up.field of visionFor more information about this family friendly movie check out the official Family Movie Night website: http://www.familymovienight.com/field-of-vision , as well as, the Family Movie Night Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/familymovienight

Is Snoopy really planning on tying the knot? In the Emmy® Award nominated Snoopy’s Getting Married, Charlie Brown, everyone in the Peanuts gang pitches in, in an effort to make preparations for Snoopy’s big wedding day.

While acting as Peppermint Patty’s watchdog one night, Snoopy meets the girl of his dreams, Genevieve, a beautiful Poodle. Genevieve and Snoopy begin courting and soon after, he proposes. Snoopy asks his brother Spike to be his “best Beagle,” prompting Spike to embark on a long and arduous journey from Needles, California to participate in the event. Charlie Brown takes Snoopy to a tuxedo shop where he is fitted for proper wedding attire, which includes a cane and swanky top hat.  The excitement builds as the big day draws near but Snoopy gets increasingly nervous about leaving his bachelorhood behind.  Will wedding bells ring for Snoopy?

Fly Away: Movie Gives an Intense Look at Life with Autism

fly away movie dvd autism

I recently had the opportunity to watch a dvd  screener of the movie Fly Away.  I was particularly interested in seeing this movie, since it is about an autistic girl transitioning from childhood into adulthood, and the struggles she and her family experience during this time.  Our little girl has autism, so of course it was a little hard to watch.  My husband found watching the film very stressful.

The teen girl depicted in the film has  somewhat severe autism.  She gets around, but her self care skills are minimal, and her outbursts are a source of trouble both at school and with her mother.  Her mother, as the primary caretaker (divorced), is overwhelmed with the stress of caring for her daughter, while trying to work and support them.  Her father obviously cares for her and takes her a couple times during the film, but he has a hard time handling her.

The mother is receiving pressure both from the school and ex-husband to place her daughter in a live-in school for young people with autism, but she resists, viewing it as abandoning her daughter.  Things soon spiral out of control, and she must face that she will not always be here to care for her daughter.  There is a tough choice to be made.

Fly Away is an intense and, as my husband will quickly tell you, stressful film.  That being said, it is effective in portraying the ups and downs of care taking with an autistic child.  I would suggest this film to anyone who wants to better understand the dynamics of transitioning a child with severe autism, into adulthood.  It is certainly thought provoking.
