The Soda Stream home carbonation system is eco-friendly, fun and incredibly easy to use .
A “Green” Product
The Soda Stream system is a good way for soda lovers to reduce their carbon footprint. It does not require electricity or batteries, and cuts back on the amount of plastic waste created by your household. Each Soda Stream bottle can be reused many times. Tap water is used to produce the soda and syrups are sold in small bottles of concentrate, which can in turn flavor many liters of soda. Transportation waste is also reduced, since you will not need to drag large quantities of heavy soda home. Carbonation cannisters and flavoring supplies will be shipped directly to your home, or can be picked up at Williams Sonoma.
The Fun Factor
It is far more entertaining to blast carbonation into your own beverage, and mix in the flavor of your choice, than to unscrew a bottle of store bought soda. There is a huge array of flavors to choose from, in both regular and diet. Regular soda from Soda Stream is only 35 calories per serving, considerably less than what you will find in the store. Soda Stream also offers energy drink concentrate, as well as, unsweetened fruit flavorings for seltzer water.
Easy to Use
Straight out of the box, you can be making soda in just a few minutes with a Soda Stream system.
Fill bottle with cold water, up to fill line. Screw on. Blast several times with CO2. Remove from nozzle, and add flavoring if desired. Then serve!
Verdict: This machine was fun to use, and did cut back on my plastic waste considerably. I noticed that the carbonation didn’t last quite as long as store bought soda (lasts about 24 hours), but this wasn’t really a problem, since the bottles are only about a liter. I usually used it up before it went flat. The seltzer was very good plain, and the flavorings for it were good, especially the orange. I am not a soda pop drinker, but did make one bottle of the lemonade soda to try, which was pretty good.
Soda Stream has kindly offered to send the winner of this drawing, a Fountain Jet system, so they can make their own soda at home.
