Today is the big DVD re-release of Prima Princessa’s Swan Lake. The DVD introduces preschoolers to the world of ballet, through 3 different formats. They will see clips of an actual ballet performance of Swan Lake, from the Paris Opera Ballet. These clips are narrated by the cartoon hostess “Prima Princessa”, so children understand what is going on. After each clip, the moves seen in it are then demonstrated by students at the School of American Ballet and the children are taught the proper terms for each move. Next the Prima Princessa Ballerinas, a group of excited preschoolers practice the moves and happily prance about, encouraging your child to join in the fun.
I played this DVD for my 33 month old a few times, and she liked watching the students and the young children, but lost interest during the professional ballet scenes. The suggested age range for the DVD is 3-6 years, so she is just growing into it now. I do think that girls within the age range would enjoy the entire DVD. The scenes from the ballet were quite amazing, and I enjoyed them myself, while she enjoyed dancing around with the children.
The DVD can be purchased at Amazon and Target, as well as several other retailers.
Verdict: A fun DVD for little girls, that their moms might enjoy, as well. If your daughter is into princesses or ballerinas, this will be just their cup of tea.
