A little while back I was offered a gift card to try out Novica’s home decor and/or jewelry departments. They have some beautiful items, and I like to support fair trade companies, so I was glad to participate. Novica has many lovely offerings in the sterling silver jewelry section, but most of my jewelry currently sits unloved in my jewelry box, so I decided to go with something more practical, out of the home decor department.
My double parlour has simple furniture in rich dark woods, and simple lines, blended with ornate exotic decorative elements. I was very tempted to get this Balinese wood relief panel depicting winged dragons, but I didn’t really have a good spot for it. Maybe you do.
I instead went in a completely different direction and selected this simple African wood stool to review. It is inspired by the customs of the Lobi people, and in their culture it is usually reserved for visiting friends it sit on. The artisan who creates these stools is Abubakari Alhassan. He still works in his native Ghana, and the stool was shipped directly to me from the country. It arrived attractively wrapped.
The stool was sturdy and just the right height for my 3 year old to use, both to sit on and as a step stool. It’s always great when design and function fit together.
For your viewing pleasure I made this collage of beautiful items currently available on Novica, in the home decor and jewelry departments. The orchid on that necklace is an actual flower coated in resin. I thought that was really neat, and they have a whole collection with different flowers available. Novica also offers a stunning hammered copper sink ,which matches that monarch butterfly vase, but I did not want to torture myself by posting it’s picture.
