As a single mom, family movie night has been more of a Mommy & Me Movie Night around our house the past couple years. We watch an animated or other kid friendly flick, while snuggling on the couch in our PJ’s, munching on a few snacks.
My daughter always enjoys watching me prepping the selection of sweet and savory snacks for our evening. I keep the spread simple and easy to handle. Last night’s movie was enjoyed with chocolate waffles, Sea Salt Pop Secret popcorn, juice for Little Foodie and a glass of Cabernet for mom. The waffles supply the sweet “chocolate-iness” we girls love without ruining our sleep, and my waffle iron makes them so you can break them up into small hearts. While the waffles were cooking, my daughter and I picked a movie, got some bedtime prep done and got our beverages ready. Just as we were ready to start the movie, I tossed a bag of Pop Secret into the microwave, so we had a nice hot bowl of popcorn.
A couple minutes later…
Our German Shepherd wasn’t about to miss out on the fun (or any dropped popcorn) and she settled in on the carpet beneath us. A fun time was had by all for about half the movie. It was right about that time that the soft tandem snoring of my little girl and her furry companion kicked in. The film was pretty cute, so I watched the rest myself, then carried my daughter up to bed. Boy, she isn’t as light as she once was, but I was happy that she was already cozy in her pajamas.
The next morning, she opted not to watch the rest of the movie, preferring one of her regular shows, but she did snag the leftover waffles and bowl of Pop Secret off the counter and noshed on that. So I must concluded, the snacks were a winner with her, the movie choice not-so-much. Despite falling asleep, she seemed to enjoy the experience quite a bit, and it made me realize that we hadn’t had a movie night in awhile. We will certainly be doing a Mommy & Me Movie night again very soon.

I liked that they use palm oil rather than hydrogenated in that one. Hard to find.
