For years now, I’ve been listening to fellow bloggers and local friends espouse the virtues of their beloved Keurig machines, almost as if they were the holy grail of coffeedom.
For years, I said, that’s nice and all, but I’m an ice coffee drinker & only grab a cup of hot, when I don’t have any java prepped for iced coffee making. I did contemplate getting one for visitors, but honestly, I don’t get that many visitors to warrant the counter space.
Well, that was then, and this is now, I say as I slurp my freshly brewed iced coffee while typing this up. You see, Keurig recently introduced Brew over Ice K-Cups and offered to send me a brewer so I could try it out for myself. Many of their coffee producing partners were quick to jump on with this new concept, so there is a good selection of brands and beverages already available with the Brew Over Ice logo on them. These cups are filled a bit more, to brew a stronger cup, so it will be just right once poured over ice.
I’d never used a Keurig , other than in a few waiting rooms. The machine was very easy to set up, and I was up and brewing in no time. Of course, brewing in the evening may not have been a genius moment on my part, but I did get a lot of work done being wired til the wee hours of the morning…lol. I picked up a box of the Brew Over Ice K-Cups at Dunkin Donuts, on a trip through the drive-thru the next day, which has resulted in me saving a number of expensive trips through there already.
As a total coffee fiend, I doubt I’ll be trying many of the other icy beverage options offered for Keurig machines, but many of you may be interested. Both Snapple & Celestial seasonings have ice teas available for the brewers. Green Mountain naturals has lemonade and Vitamin burst now has two flavors for Keurig.
I’m loving my new Keurig, and my poor old coffee maker has been neglected ever since I powered this baby up. It may soon find itself housed in the basement storage with my expensive Italian espresso maker that is too much of a hassle to use when you are half asleep in the morning, but gets dragged out on occasion.
