Child Safe Roman Blinds: Review and Giveaway

“once a month a child dies from window cord strangulation and another child suffers from near strangulation”  - Consumer Product Safety Commission .

cordfree blindsAs parents we try and do all we can to protect our children, with the recall of so many different types of blinds and shades,  we seem to be  left with far fewer options for window treatments.   I personally am switching out all my mini-blinds, not just because they are dangerous, but also because… face it, they are ugly. With change comes cost, but there are reasonably priced attractive options available.

Kenney manufacturing recently released their line of Truly CordFree Roman shades.  These are completely cordless, so strangulation issues are not a worry, with these shades.  They are maneuvered with a wand, which pulls up a wide mess band, that runs behind the fabric shade.  It did take me a little while to figure out how to put these shades up, since they are different than any I’ve put up before, but after the first one, it would be much easier.

roman blind velcro backingThe learning curve in putting these up is offset, by how much easier these are to wash than typical blinds.  As you can see in the picture to the right, the fabric portion is attached by Velcro.  There is also a strip of Velcro at the bottom, attaching it to the mesh strip.  Simply wash and reattach.  No need hand wash these blinds in the bath tub, or backyard, like mini-blinds.  I really hate that job.

The shades are available in many stylish color and material options.  There are regular weight insulated shades in Linen and Olive tones, and more heavily insulated black out shades available in the colors Khaki and Chocolate.  If yoy prefer more natural elements in your decor, bamboo shades are also offered in both flat stick and woven matchstick.   Kenney also makes these Cordfree Roman shades in a faux jute fabric, which I saw instore, and liked.

For further information about these shades visit  http://www.kenney.com/engwincov.html.  Kenney Truly CordFree Shades are available at select Wal-mart stores.
