Sportline Qlip Any-Wear Pedometer Review (Great Father’s Day Gift)

I have been doing a lot of walking, as well as, glider workouts lately. The Sportline Qlip Any-Wear Pedometer I was sent for review has really come in handy. It has been great for walks in the park with my daughter, and has shown consistent distances for the same paths. I also use it on my Gazelle (air walker/glider), and on there it seems to give 1/2 the distance traveled, most likely due to the altered stride on this exercise machine, but the results are still consistent for similar time and pace, so the Qlip has still been helpful in measuring these workouts too.

In addition to measuring distance this pedometer also measures: time, steps, miles or kilometers, calories burned (set your weight for accuracy) & speed. All from a compact attractive clip anywhere design.

I am down 25 pounds and this pedometer has been a big help in achieving this weight loss!

String-Ring Review and Giveaway

Channellock Ratcheting Wrench Set: Giveaway

I recently had the opportunity to review a set of ratcheting wrenches from Channellock. While there were only 2 wrenches in the set, they are designed to do the work of 8, due to the new 4-in-1 design. This makes them a great compact set, for use by the handyman (or woman) on the move, or as a starter set, for someone who only dabbles in repairs. Those who have limited tool storage space will certainly appreciate the new product design, as well.

The wrenches are well made, no surprise since they are made in the USA, by Channellock. The only thing we didn’t love about these tools was the black, it made the sizes a little hard to read.

Dremel Trio Review: Great Gift for the DIYer on your List

The Dremel Trio, as the name would indicate, is a three in one power tool. This handy little unit can not only cut, sand and rout, but it even has a 90 degree pivoting handle. The pivoting handle locks in at the straight up & down position and at the 90 degree angle. The Dremel Trio comes in a durable hard plastic storage case and is packaged with a straight edge/circle guide, a wrench for adjustments, and a few starter bits, so that you can try out each function.

This versatile lightweight tool would make an excellent gift for anyone who does not have a full stable of powertools, or any wood working hobbiest. While I have not had the Trio long enough to attest to it’s durabilty over time, my family has been using Dremel tools for over a decade, and have always been pleased with their versatility and durability. The Trio, like Dremel’s other tools, has a huge array of attachments, that can be used with it.

A Dremel Trio could certainly save a homeowner a good deal in hassles or rental costs, by avoiding the need to borrow tools. With appropriate attachments the Trio can readily accomplish a vast array of household repair and renonvation tasks. It would also be useful to those who may already have standard tools for these tasks, but would like something easy to handle, for woodworking/craft projects.

The Dremel Trio can be picked up at most home improvement retailers. I have seen it priced as low as $99.

Recent Toys Brainteaser Puzzles: Review and Giveaway

My family was sent two brainteaser puzzles from Recent Toys, for review about a month ago, Brainstring Advanced & Cubigami7.

Brainstring Advanced

Sort the colors out so there is a solid color on every side. Then untangle the strings to remove the knot in the middle. It’s so easy – KNOT! … This advanced version adds more sides, colored strings and easy-to-grasp rubber tips. More challenging than the original, Brainstring Advanced will stretch your puzzle-solving skills to the next level.

(Ages 7 and up)

This puzzle is more tricky than it looks. I completely have no patience for knots. Hubby had to unravel this one.

Cubigami7

Object: Create one of the seven shapes.
This is fun…squared! Flip and fold the tiles to create one of seven possible shapes. The first puzzle is a warm up and each one is more challenging than the last. You’ve truly mastered Cubigami once you can solve puzzle number seven.

(Ages 5 and Up)

My 3 1/2 year old autistic daughter is a bit young for this puzzle, but she LOVED it, and did surprisingly well with putting the squares together. Although she couldn’t assemble the whole thing, once you got her started, she could do a lot more than I had expected. She did eventually break the puzzle, but it is actually pretty sturdy and kids in the suggested age group would be unlikely to break it. I might just get her another, but limit her to using it with me.

These puzzles were suggested to me, when I had sent out a request for suggestions for toys autistic children would be likely to enjoy. Judging from my daughter’s fascination with the Cubigami 7 puzzle, I would have to say the suggestion was a good one. Recent Toys has a whole collection of neat brainteaser puzzles, which would make excellent small gifts or stocking stuffers, for both kids and adults.

Executive Gift Shoppe Review

I will be redoing my office, pretty soon and really want to start from scratch. This is why I selected the Revolving Rosewood Finish Desktop Organizer, as the item I would review from the Executive Gift Shoppe. They have a wonderful selection of desk organizers, as well as, many other wonderful gifts. They even include free personalization.

The organizer was shipped promptly, and well packaged. It has a good weight to it. I can tell it isn’t made from cheap softwoods, like so many things are these days. The finish was nice, and it revolved smoothly. My 3 year old is fascinated with it, and it has already survived many high speed spins, and been dropped twice. It came through the experience unmarred, but I still chose to put it away on a higher shelf until something else captures her imagination. If it can survive her abuse, it should last a very long time with normal office use. I feel confident in saying their desktop organizers are good quality.
