One Day Only: 3 Years Taste of Home Magazine just $16.99!

I admit it I am too cheap to buy the issues of Taste of Home in-store. I always tell myself to remember to get a subscription, but them promptly forget… yeah I’m an absent-minded Aquarius.  I am going to be taking advantage of this deal, three years  for $16.99!   Since many of my readers are also avid cooks, I thought sharing this deal would be a good idea.

The California Wine Club Review

I love wine.  As someone who worked in restaurants for many years, I do know the basics about it, but am by no stretch of the imagination any kind of expert.  It always saddens me to hear people express intimidation with wine.  Some folks seem to fear that knowing a good wine is some mysterious skill honed by the rich and snobbish… that is very much not the case.

Tasting wine is meant to be fun.  There is no quiz at the end.  There are no wrong answers, and in the end the only opinion that really matters is your own.  That being said, learning a little along the way, will help steer you toward picking wines you will enjoy, and help you select a wine that will make dinner even more enjoyable, whether it’s a simple cheeseburger or gourmet fare.robledo wines

The California Wine Club makes tasting wine an enjoyable experience, that you can have right in your own home.  Each moth the club sends 2 bottles from a small California winery.  You will get a magazine with the shipment that tells you about the winery, the family that runs it and information about the wines themselves.  If all you have ever drank before is mass produced wine, you’re sure to be surprised at how distinctive the wines are from small family wineries like this.

My California Wine Club  shipment contained two wines from the Robledo family winery, their 2005 “Los Bracos” Sonoma Valley Red Blend and 2007 “The Seven Brothers” Lake County Sauvignon Blanc.  I truly enjoyed both bottles.  The red was packed with yummy berry flavor (kind of made me think of blueberry cobbler).  It also had another woodsy flavor that I couldn’t quite put a finger on.  I looked at the tasting notes, that were in the magazine, and they mentioned a hint of tobacco & cedar with a spicy pepper finish.  Tobacco was that subtle flavor I couldn’t name. I already learned something :) The Sauvingnon Blanc was refreshing and light.  I could smell  pears and pineapple right away, but then as I went to sip, green apple took over & that is what the wine tasted like to me, the crisp Granny Smith apples my daughter loves so much.  It is amazing the flavors you can get out of a grape.

The two wines in this shipment would have had a combined cost of over $50 at retail, regular club price is $36.45 and included the magazine and a nifty cardboard spin to match wine and meal pairing disk.
