Clipix: A Fun Visual Way to Organize Your Interests and Projects

I started using the fun and useful new social (or unsocial) bookmarking tool clipix.  With Clipx, it is easy to bookmark any webpage, with one of the images on it.  You can then arrange your clips onto boards.  The site starts you off with some suggested boards, but making your own custom boards is really the way to go.

This tool is a great way to plan a project, or vacation, arrange recipes or craft ideas, or even use it as a gift list idea tool.  The possibilities are nearly endless.  Unlike some bookmarking tools, you have the option to keep a board private.  This is done on a board by board basis, so everyone can’t see your party planning notes, but friends can see the after party pictures, and the blog post you do about the party can be shared on one of your public boards… get the idea.  It is all up to you, who can see what.

I’ve started using this tool for very specific private boards.  They will be related around a specific ingredient, or some other narrow category.  These boards will be very handy references for me when doing an occasional recipe round-up post, or when I am brainstorming a new recipe that includes one of these ingredients (sometimes seeing what others have done gives you an idea in a new direction).

Don’t get me wrong, I love sharing great recipes I have found online, and I can do this with clipix, as well, but I love having the option not to “let it all hang out” so to say.  You can also set up boards for groups to contribute to, great for the local recipe club.

Check out this video to learn more about Clipix

So what great boards would you like to set up?  How would you utilize the unique features of Clipix?

The currently free version, is called Flip Boom Doodle.  The dashboard is laid out simply.  No need for instructions, after playing around with the software for a couple minutes, you will have figured out how to use most of the features.  Kids will probably figure it out even faster…lol.  The software is a fantastic way to promote creativity in both kids and adults, and it i mighty fun :)

Here is the short video I put together this morning.  Don’t laugh… I never claimed to be Da Vinci, but I think it did come out kind of cute for an amateur animation, made with a mouse and the Toon Boom software, that can be gotten for free right now (very limited time… so download and activate NOW).

Not only is Toon Boom introducing their software for free for this limited offer, but you can enter your creations into their contest to win an iPad!

New Name!

mom foodie logo - foodie momIn case you didn’t notice yet, there has been a pretty big change around here.  I have a spiffy new blog name, Mom Foodie.  After 2 years of explaining what “Blommi” was, I decided to change over to something more reflective of my current content, which mostly has to do with food.

I have changed over my usernames on Twitter, StumbleUpon & Pinterest to MomFoodie, as well, so if you find you are following those accounts, it’s just me :)

Walgreens Offers Prescription Savings Club to Help Those of Us Effected by the Developments with Express Scripts

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Many of you may have already heard of the  Walgreens and Express Script parting of ways.  As someone who has Express Script, and has been getting prescriptions filled at Walgreens for many years now, it is something I am currently dealing with.  I was a bit disappointed and annoyed by not being able to fill my prescriptions at the pharmacy which is most convenient to me.  I don’t take ongoing medications, so the option to have medications delivered by mail is really not applicable to me.  I am generally picking up a prescription because my daughter or I am sick, and since I am a single mom now, I have to take her along with me, hence close by, with a drive-thru is essential.

While I am not happy about having to change my pharmacy, I must say, Walgreens has contacted me several times to ensure, that I was well aware of the change, and to assure me that they would make sure the transfer of any prescriptions would go smoothly.  They have also made a special discount available on the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, which offers discount prices on prescriptions, flu shots, diabetic supplies… even pet prescriptions.  It might be worth the discounted $10 club price, to me even though I will have to change over my primary pharmacy, for the discounts on non-prescription items and pet medication.

Stay up to date, on how Walgreens is helping their customers during this transition  by following Walgreens on Twitter, as well as, Walgreens on Facebook.

I Need Stylish Eyeglasses that Won’t Break My Holiday Budget

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Zenni Optical for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

zenni optical logoUntil recently, eyeglasses were not a concern for me.  I always had good vision.  Now that I am in my 40′s though, I have been having more trouble reading labels and such.  It happens to just about everyone, but I am not thrilled.  I’ve seen the “readers’ in the drug store, but have avoided buying any.  I guess I feel that by getting a pretty pair of eyeglasses , rather than those generic old age ones, will ease the blow of this aging mile stone.  I have a 4 year old daughter.  I don’t want to look like a granny…lol.

I recently checked out the eyeglass selection at Zenni Optical.  They have a huge array of cheap eyeglasses with real style.  Ridiculously priced, high end designer eyeglasses are not in my budget, especially at holiday time, but I found some lovely frames here, that won’t wreak havoc on my wallet.  They are unique and quite pretty, and at under $30, an excellent buy.  At first, I thought I wanted  clear frames, but when I saw these lovely purple frames, that look like cut crystal and even have crystal adorned temple decorations, they were my hands down choice.  What do you think?

pretty eyeglasses

The cool thing about shopping at Zenni is that at these prices you can either get more gifts for your loved ones, or mix up your style with an additional pair or two of eyeglasses. Perhaps even a special festive pair for the holiday season. Santa would certainly approve!

Why not stop by Zenni Optical yourself to check or the great options… I’d love to hear about your pick :)

California Wine Club: Great Last Minute Holiday Gift!

california wine club holiday giftLooking for a last minute holiday gift, they will really love? Why not a membership to the California Wine Club .  It would be a fantastic present for any wine lover, as well as, the foodies in your life.  I have sampled a few shipments, and have been very pleased with the quality of the wines sent.

wine clubThe club is not stuffy at all.  California Wine Club makes tasting wine an easy and enjoyable experience, that you can have right in your own home.  Each moth the club sends two bottles of wine from a small (usually family run) California winery.  They arrive nicely packaged in a specially designed double wine insulator, to ensure no broken bottles.   An informative magazine is also included with each shipment.  The magazine shares interesting information about the producing winery, and the family that runs it. There is also a section in the back, offering bottles that have come in earlier shipments (great if you haven’t been able to find them locally).  If you have never experienced small estate wines before, you’re sure to be surprised at how distinctive they each are, and knowing about the people that made your wine, adds a little to the enjoyment, as well.

You can send as many months as you like to your recipient. Discounts are available on 3, 6, 9 & 12 month packages. The first shipment will also include a $25 voucher so they can re-order their favorite wines.  Each shipment contains two bottles, if you prefer to do two red or two white wines, rather than one of each no problem.  To take advantage of this deal and get an additional 10% off your order, use the promo code: blommi and follow this link to  The California Wine Club.

Get Your Kids Outside Again with GeoMate Jr.

geomate jrWant to get your kids outdoors more, and away from the video games, then why not have technology help rather than hinder you in this endeavor.  Geomate JR.  feeds kids desire for technology and gadgets, but also makes it a fun adventure to be outside and active.  This handheld GPS device is specifically created for geocaching, and come preloaded with 250,000 Geocaches.  With the help of an update kit, even more geocaches are available.  What an exciting way to get your kids interested in the outdoors.

The Internet and television may be dominating leisure activities and zapping outdoor time for kids, but that won’t slow down the fast growing trend millions enjoy: GPS treasure hunting called, geocaching. Thanks to Apisphere, Inc., the company behind Geomate.jr (www.mygeomate.com), children, their families and adventure seekers from all walks of life can get hip with the increasingly popular and fun geocaching phenomenon, a great group activity for scouting, summer camps and schools. Geomate.jr, the first and only device of its kind, combines technology and outdoor play while providing hours of geocaching entertainment; it is preloaded with 250,000 geocache locations.

Sadly, according to the Outdoor Foundation, outdoor activity among children ages 6 to 17 declined 11 percent in 2008. “Geomate.jr offers a way to reconnect our children with family time and nature while encouraging them to be active, get outdoors and explore the environment,” says Warren Hewerdine, co-inventor of Geomate.jr and Apisphere’s vice president of marketing. He says, “Savvy kids will get their technology fix from the easy-to-use device, and it eliminates the traditional fuss of Internet connections, downloads, coordinates and preplanning to provide a spontaneous geocaching experience families can enjoy anytime, anywhere.” Geomate.jr acts as an electronic compass, guiding you to within yards of a geocache.

People all over the world have enjoyed geocaching but up until now, the GPS receivers required were expensive and difficult to use. “Geomate.jr is about the size of a granola bar and built tough so it can take a beating. The contoured grip fits comfortably in the hands of kids and adults,” says Hewerdine. “Then all you have to do is head out to a local park, the back country or just down the street to get started on creating lifelong memories and a new found appreciation for the outdoors.” The Geomate.jr makes a great gift idea any time of year, and thanks to its size, it is a perfect stocking stuffer around the holiday season.

NewAir AIC-210 Ice Cream Maker Review

ice cream makerI was recently sent a NewAir AIC-210 Ice Cream Maker for review.  This ice cream maker is much different than the one my parent’s used when I was a child.  Memories of packing salt and ice into the sides of the old style ice cream makers , and waiting for hours to have any ice cream to eat, didn’t draw me back to the process, as an adult.  This ice cream machine is far different from the set-up my parents used though.

homemade frozen yogurtThe NewAir AIC-210 Ice Cream Maker has a built in compressor, so making ice cream becomes as simple as mixing your ingredients, pouring them in, setting the timer, and pressing the button.  I made some frozen yogurt in the machine, and it was ready in just 40 minutes, with minimal cleanup.  My daughter loved the yogurt, and it is a great way to try out something unusual.   Our frozen yogurt concoction was made with vanilla frozen yogurt, milk, chocolate Slimfast powder & a banana.  I figured my daughter and I both liked this combination as a smoothie, so why not a frozen treat.

I will certainly be having some fun with this next summer, making ice cream and frozen yogurt featuring fresh fruits and berries.  I might try a couple wacky recipes I have seen online, like bacon ice cream, as well… why not.  The Newair AIC-210 would make a wonderful gift for the foodie or ice cream lover in your life.   It is quicker and easier to use than most ice cream makers , so I think they will be pleasantly surprised.

Free HTC EVO 4G or EVO Shift Smartphones: 3 Days Only!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sprint for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

HTC EVO

sprint logo

Why not make it a happy holiday for yourself or someone on your gift list, with a great Android powered 4G smartphone.  For three days only, December  12th through the 14th, Sprint is offering 2 different  Android™ powered EVO 4G devices for free.

If you or a family member overdue for an upgrade, this is the perfect time to do so, not only do you currently have the opportunity to select from an HTC EVO 4G or EVO Shift 4G,for free, but Sprint is also waiving the activation fee for this promotion.

I just got a new phone on Black Friday, so I am not personally ready to get a new one, but if I were in the market I would go for the EVO Shift.  I wish the new phone I just got had the slider in addition to the touch screen, like the EVO Shift does.  I don’t text well on the touch screen at all.  In my case the price difference, led me to choose a phone without slider, but with this promotion through Sprint, you don’t need to settle for a lesser phone.  You have two top of the line options available at no cost.
