We are now a week into the new year. Hopefully, you are still right on track with your resolution to live a healthier lifestyle this year, but if you are already struggling, perhaps some of these easy healthy living tips will help. I do all of them and they certainly help me. The only one I struggle with is number two, since storage is very limited in my kitchen.
- Shut off the TV. What has television done for you lately? How much does lying around watching other people live their lives, really enhance your own. Use that time to exercise, get things done around the house or spend quality time with your family. (Bonuses: Save money on your cable bill by cutting out channels, plus electric bill savings)
- No mindless eating. Where you eat can reflect on the thought or lack thereof involved. Resolve to stop eating in front of the TV or computer. Also, put a halt to eating in the car. Make sure to put all your “picky” snacks away in a cupboard or other out-of-site spot immediately. Having then sit out, encourages thoughtless “fly-by” snacking.
- Cook. Cooking your own food, can help reduce the amount of chemicals and empty calories your family consumes. It will almost certainly lower your sodium intake which is shockingly high for most Americans.
- Wear a Pedometer. 10,000 steps-a-day is a good goal for a healthy active lifestyle. Whatever the starting count you have, it will motivate you to do more.
- Put on some Music. Without even realizing it, you will end out being more active when you have some lively music on. If you are stressed, put something soothing on.
So what are your healthy living tips? What helps keep you on track with your resolutions? What do you find most difficult when endeavoring toward a healthy lifestyle?

Excellent tips. I never watch TV, HOWEVER, the computer is my vice!!! ACK!
I’m a little late on the pedometer thing – I didn’t realize how many ‘steps’ were recommended!
Shutting off the tv is a huge help!
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
I need to do #3 and #4. I’ve rarely had my TV on since Dec. 22nd. And I made it one of my goals to be a conscious eater… I will always be aware of what I’m putting in my mouth.
Since we got rid of satellite, our TV time has reduced drastically! I miss it, but it allows me to spend more quality time with my family.
My package is tied to my web speed, so I have quite a few channels, just rarely them.
I’m totally guilty of eating in front of the tv, BUT I portion out my snacks and choose them very mindfully. And as far as TV time goes, that’s my escape after sitting all day in front of the computer. Can I have a pass?
Nope
I totally do mindless eating
Mindless eating a big one for me. And I need to start hitting 10k more often. Clean while wearing pedometer with music playing and you’ll get steps though!
Amazing how much “tunes” help keep ya moving
Red Hot Chili Peppers are on at my house a lot…. course I end out messing around on my daughter’s trampoline a lot and not getting any work done.
Cooking all of your own food makes SO MUCH difference!
The pedometer was the biggest change I made last year. Keeps me going.
Cooking my own food was a key factor in losing as much weight as I did. I could really, REALLY count calories and ended up eating much healthier. Not only for me, but my family, too.
Wow. I need to do all of the above.
I agree that cooking is very important. I eat so much healthier when I cook for my family.
These are great tips. I watch TV but I try and do something at the same time like fold laundry or get on the eliptical.
I think cooking your own food is so important
I totally need to do all of those and add turn off computer.
Great tips! I would love to be more conscious about how many steps I take a day.
Great advice! Mindless eating is the downfall for most us I think!
These are great tips, thanks for sharing.
For me it would be shut off the computer!
I’d like to turn the TV off more!
fabulous tips and I just got a pedometer I should probably start wearing it
These are all great tips, especially the mindless eating one.
I HATE the TV. It has ruined so many things in my life lol
I need to get away from the computer more.
Love turning of the TV and putting on the music gets you moving.
Awesome tips for getting healthy this year.
I hate the TV too! Unless I’m watching my favorite shows, which isn’t many…. lol
