Oopsy Review

Review

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the products and service of  Oopsy.  The owner Beth offers a wide selection of items: T-shirts, mouse pads, business cards, binders, neck ties, Keds and even postage stamps are just a few of the products she offers.  These can be ordered in one of Oopsy’s own designs or custom design made especially for you.

While many of Oopsy’s business card and binder designs appealed to me, I couldn’t resist  the Oopsy Girl T-shirt.  It was perfect for my toddler daughter.  The word “oopsy” just cracks her up, and like most toddlers, she provides plenty of opportunity to use it.  I selected an organic cotton Tee in the color “natural”, and ordered it a size up as suggested on the website, to ensure a roomy fit.

The shirt was delivered promptly, and the quality seemed good.  The fact that it was tagless, was a plus.  I washed it in cold and tumble dried, just as I do with the majority of our clothes.  The Tee had surprisingly little shrinkage for an all cotton item, and washing and drying had no effect on the logo.  All in all, a nice quality T-shirt, delivered with excellent customer service.

The Verdict: I would buy from Oopsy in the future.  I really like the foil backed business cards, and was considering a custom binder for the recipes I create.  Beth was very easy to work with, just the kind of person you want to deal with, when ordering custom items.

Disclaimer: While I did receive a T-shirt to review, the views presented here are my honest opinion and no other compensation was given.

Now for the fun part. Oopsy has offered a special giveaway for my readers.  One winner will receive a standard adult or child short sleeve T-shirt of their choice.  Selection can be made from any of the Oopsy designs or Beth will even customize it, by adding names or photos, if you like.

Wordless Wednesday 1/20

These flowers were already a week and a half old when I took this picture.  It is now two weeks later and I still have a small bouquet of daisies remaining from out of this floral arrangement.  Talk about staying power.

Do You Have Questions About Your Child’s Development?

As parents we often wonder how our kids are doing in relation to their peers.  Some areas are more obvious than others.  There is value in knowing the areas your child may be ahead or behind in, as this information in conjunction with his or her interests, can be used as stepping stones for progress.  If your child is behind his peers in an area, you can tailor activities to intergrate in the play routine, which will help him progress.

Savvy Source, a site designed to help parents connect and supply them with custom activity suggestions, to help their children thrive, now offers the “Savvy Quiz”.  The quiz asks a series of multiple choice questions about your child’s current skills.  The information is tabulated to give parents a general idea of how their child is doing in relation to his peers, and point out areas that could use some work.  The test is meant for children from 2 – 6 years of age (pre-school age).  The test is then used in conjuction with your childs interests to suggest some fun educational activities for you to do with your child.

If you are interested in trying this free test for yourself, the banner on my sidebar will take you there.

Please keep in mind, like any test, the results are not always an accurate reflection of your child, and if you have any serious concerns about the development of your child, you should contact your doctor, early Intervention or your school department.

Homemade Dog Treats | Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit Recipe

How to make  Homemade Dog Treats…

Homemade dog treats are quite easy to make, and your dog will probably like biscuits you make at home better.  Mine does.  Try out this easy peanut butter dog biscuit recipe yourself  & let your dog do a treat taste test.  I happened to have a dog bone shaped cookie cutter on hand, but any shape will do.  I’ve made heart shaped ones a lot, they are smaller, so the harden a bit quicker in the oven.  I don’t make homemade dog treats all the time, but they are certainly loved by my pooch when I do.  Keep in mind the size of your dog, when making dog biscuits.  We have a German Shepherd, a toy breed would surely do better with a smaller treat.

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits – Homemade Dog Treats

2 c. whole wheat flour

1/2 c. milk

1/3 c. natural peanut butter

1 egg

2 tbs. olive oil

1/2 tsp. baking soda

pinch of kosher salt

  1. Mix baking soda and salt into the flour.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix with dough hook on med speed.
  3. When dough can be formed into a ball remove.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface (about a 1/4″ thick).
  5. Cut out dog biscuits with cookie cutters or simply cut dough into treat sized squares, with pastry wheel or pizza cutter.
  6. Place the treats directly on baking sheet.
  7. Prick each dog biscuit with a fork.
  8. Bake at 300 degrees, for 45 minutes to an hour.  45 minutes will result in a softer “crunch” (good for older dogs).
  9. Allow to cool on wire rack.
  10. Store your homemade dog treats in airtight container or ziploc bag.

Homemade dog treats are a perfect gift for any canine lover.  Make a batch for a friend when they adopt a new pooch, or drop some off for their dog’s birthday.  They will surely appreciate such a thoughtful gift.

Remembering Dr. King

I was just a little over one year old when Dr. King was assassinated.  Growing up his legacy was still very fresh.  I hope the kids today still see the strength and wisdom in his words.

Not only was Martin Luther King Jr. a major force in the Civil Right’s Movement, but also the Poor People’s Campaign.  He fought for all Americans to be able to live with dignity.

A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan.

Getting Organized in 2010 : Mid-January Update

My resolution to get organized this year continues. I’ve decided to make this a twice monthly feature.   Some slow but steady progress has been made, in my fight over storage issues, over the past two weeks.

Getting my Schedule Organized

Since the end goal is to be organized in all areas by the end of the year, one of my small projects was finding a day planner that would  hold up in my purse and  I would actually use.  I found a small Day Runner in the pink ribbon selection at Staples, that I’m quite pleased with.  The outside is mostly black, but has cute stripes inside and a spot for business cards, most importantly, it seems sturdy enough to hold up to the wear & tear I’ll give it.  Once I pick up one of those giant wall calenders for my office, I should have the scheduling part of  “operation organization” covered.

In the Kitchen

After I’d tossed out anything in the pantry that was past date, or would end out just sitting around for another 6 months, I washed down all the shelves.  Rather than repainting them as I’ve done in the past, I lined them with contact paper.  It will be easier to maintain.

I still want to add a couple wire shelves, to improve the capacity, but the pantry is functioning better already.

  Toys

It may seem counter intuitive, to buy another toy, when you are having trouble keeping the ones you already have in check, but that is just what I did.  As I wrote about last week, I got a great deal on a Kid Kraft play kitchen, for my daughter.  While I did think it would be a fun addition to her room, and a toy she could grow into… I was looking at the storage potential it had.  I found it to be the perfect place to store her play food, tea set and a few odds & ends.

Get Out of my Life

It is amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a house in 10 years.  Big Sisters is coming on Monday and so far I have 4 bags of clothes, 2 bags of toys and 1 of household items.  I’m sure I will come up with a few more bags tomorrow.

Getting rid of stuff can be hard for some of us.  I was raised in a “pack rat” household, and getting rid of items which still have value can be a bit hard for me.  Eventually I hope to be able to look on my stuff with a cold eye, and say do I love it or need it, if not it’s out, but I am still at the point of ridding myself of the things I either never really liked, or know I won’t use.  The tougher cuts will come later.  I live in a Victorian era home, and simply don’t have much storage.

I’m pleased with my progress so far, and am eager to continue on this organizational overhaul.  My new motto is…

“A place for everything and everything in it’s place” ~ Benjamin Franklin
